Okay so I am a planner by nature and with my job we have to plan our days to manage our time. Becoming a mom has taken that to a whole new level but was still managable and not too creepy. Now that #2 is here yikes look out everyone because the planner/organizer in me is taking over!
So I came up with a chart to meal plan. And I cannot start talking about this without giving a big shout out to my fellow bumpies on the stay at home mom board for giving me so many great ideas on this subject. My chart has a space for 6 days, what the meal of the day is, the ingredient list and an item needed list. After I plan everything I take a look at what I have on hand and whatever I am missing from the ingredient list goes into the item needed list thus creating a weekly shopping list. Now I only have 6 days because we either eat out or go to my parents for dinner at least 1 time a week. And Saturday is designated leftover day so of we make plans no worries and if we don't all the leftovers can get cleared out before the next week begins. Now that I have that syst in place I feel the urge to do more.
My goal for tomorrow is to create one month worth of meal plans and each week on my day off it will include a recipe from one of my cookbooks that are collecting dust. I need to challenge myself in building a bigger database of recipes that are good for my family. I am thinking of once I lock them on to create my own cookbook of meal plans and just put them in rotation. We shall see.
Meal planning is such a genius idea I have no idea why I didn't do it more before. I also will be making baby food for Caleb so I can plan him into the meals too! I didn't make food for Aiden but we did use organic baby food and I was really happy with earth's best and beech nut. But it is so cheap and easy I cannot justify not doing it. So with my goals set for tomorrow I will settle down for the night with my inner planner excited for what tomorrow may bring!
