Just wanted to say Happy Earth Day. As I sit here and reflect on ways I can make a difference I wonder how I can instill a passion for compassion in my children. Compassion for each other and the world we live in. Just because I have yet to travel around the world doesn't mean I can't be a parent of the world does it? Parents and children can learn together, right? We can start small. Like don't waste water. Especially where we live, we are a huge agricultural community that needs water to earn a living. So teaching him to not leave the water running when brushing his teeth, not filling up the tub because it's unnecessary, these are easy lessons a kid can learn.
I also hope to teach him about recycling. We just signed up for recycling at our house and with all the paper a child can waste learning, play, creating, it can become overwhelming. I hope to create bins this weekend to seperate our recyclables and repurposable (is that even a word?) items. Such as papers from school only printed on one side can become scratch paper or craft paper. I also think now that we have a garden some light composting might be in order! I am super excited to start these projects with Aiden. I hope he enjoys learning and lending a hand to help ensure the future of our world.
I think the best thing about Earth day is that it's about all of us no matter who you are, where you come from, what you look like, what you believe or who you believe in, we are all coming together for one purpose, one goal: To protect our planet one change at a time. So those are my changes for this year. I hope all of you had a great day and if you didn't give Earth day a thought, take one now. What small thing you do everyday can you change to create a better planet?
